Miguelito's is the cousin to the larger Miguel's Mexican restaurant further west on Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa. It is going for a more trendy appeal as a Taco and Tequila bar, and is a mixed place aesthetically. Inside is dark and cushy, with purple lights and big booths, looking more like a hip lounge. The interior bar area, with 8 stools, is even darker and has 6 flat screen TVs. The outside dining area and bar is more patio-esque, with a retractable awning, nice natural light, large flat screen TVs, and a lighted marble bar.
I had the Blackened Shrimp Taco salad for lunch- $8.99. I'd give it a 4 out of 5. The shrimp, nicely spiced with blackened seasoning, were small but there are a lot of them. The accompanying Queso dressing was bland tasting prepackaged. The most outstanding part of the dish was the Mexican street corn. It's corn off the cob mixed with mayo, pepper, a dab of yescilantro, and enough chili to influence but not overwhelm. Sitting outdoors, even in the summer, was pleasant with the fans and "Porta Cool" going full blast. Service was fast and friendly, and prices pretty good given it's location and volume of the dish. I'd go back.
