-4 Snaps! Strongly recommended
I'm pretty sure, at least for the foodies that I know, a positive review for Farmtable Cucina is a no-brainer. It is a known quantity to the local food world and was established by culinary rock stars Michael Mina and Don Pintabona in 2014. The overall consistent quality and variety of Locale Market, home to Farmtable Cucina in downtown St. Petersburg, is pretty much unmatched in these parts. I have reviewed some of the other stations in the market like the Poke bowl and the Hamburger counters, as well as their seafood low country boil last year. They are all consistently well done.
Florida grouper BLT with pickled green tomato applewood bacon and caper aioli is skewered with a garlic pickle and sweet pepper and served with fries. The grouper is a nice thick cut of fish grilled just right. It sits on a bed of shredded lettuce and red cabbage and the aioli is a tart peppery lemony kicker. The green tomato is thin and could be a little more present. But, overall, it is a two-fisted two napkin sandwich for $18.
Service is friendly and snappy during lunch. While it's an upper end place with really good food, it may not be the best place for a working lunch if you need to be connected. The only Wi-Fi available is through Sundial (the shopping center Wi-Fi) and it was not functional on the day I was there. There are no plugs available for electronics should you need a quick charge. But, then, this is no coffee shop.
There is a modern and open industrial feel to the interior of Farmtable Cucina patrons wishing a premium experience can book a seat at the chefs table, a seasonally-inspired, 8-course Chef's Tasting Menu offered on Thursday, Friday, Saturday evenings at 6:30pm. There are only 10 places per seating and the cost is $105
If you are hungry for a good meal in St. Petersburg or just want a unique experience, give Locale market a try. If you want some top-of-the-line food along with good service and good atmosphere, go upstairs to Farmtable Cucina
