-4 Snaps! Strongly recommended
Ciccio Restaurant Group opened it's latest concept eatery on August 1st in the SOHO district of South Tampa. Taco Dirty, Juice, Bowls, Mexican Things is another iteration of the health conscious leaning food offered up at their Fresh Kitchen and Better Byrd locations. Each location offers bowls with many of the same veggie and protein starters as the Dirty. Better Byrd, like Taco Dirty, has tacos and bowls and adds wings and sandwiches. Fresh Kitchen only has bowls. No matter, the owners clearly know their audience and provide crowd generating pleasing menus and environments.
On Friday afternoon the place is crowded and parking is really tight. There are a total of 12ish parking spots in the dedicated lot with 4 of them reserved for pick up. Most spaces are labeled compact only (door dingers). There are 2 spots on the street in front and a couple on the side. Welcome to SOHO.
Inside the music is so loud that hearing the explanations from behind the counter about the food and options is difficult. I muddle through with some pointing and "huh's"? I conclude that ambiance matters and balancing vibe with functionality is an art.
The line is long but there are a good amount of servers behind the line to expedite orders. We have our food in less than 5 minutes and are able to find a seat at one of the community tables in the dining room.
Taco Bodega ($7.71) seemed like a good place to start. It is three tacos customized your way with one protein or veggie and two "mexi things". I order mine with a lettuce wrap instead of a tortilla. I customized mine three ways and each one was outstanding. The veggies were hot and fresh, the fried chicken was crispy, the shrimp excellent, and the sauces really good!
I note the odd price and was later told by Jimmy Fashner social media coordinator for Taco Dirty who was seated next to us in the dining area, that items are priced so that with tax the total evens out on the dollar. Profit is in the details, and if restaurants don't have to deal with a lot of coinage, it's time and hassle saver!
Happy hour on weekdays is from 2:30 - 5:30 with $2 tacos and $3 beer. Taco Dirty is closed on Mondays and opened 11:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. daily
