With all of the commotion over the last year between  Popeyes and the world about who's got the best chicken sandwiches you gotta hand it to Tampa Pizza Co. co-founder Dave Burton for having the courage to open another retail outlet that serves them, especially in  times of a business slowing pandemic. Chicky Chicky Bang Bang is a hybrid operation opening within the walls of the pizza company on Henderson Boulevard. It makes business sense to spread the overhead of two businesses, expanding the menu at the same time. So, hats off to the owners for the the creativity in the nutty restaurant Covid-19 world.

Chicky Chicky offers a decent selection on the menu of creatively named sammys. Just like the restaurant, most of them tip their hat to byegone movies and movie stars. We go with the Goldie Hen ($8)-Fried chicken, garlic parmesan sauce, bacon, lettuce, ranch dressing on potato bun, and classic mac & cheese. We also opt for and the not-so-creatively-named Chicken Pesto ($9)-Grilled chicken, pesto, arugula, tomatoes, balsamic vinaigrette on ciabatta roll, with waffle fries.
Service is incredibly friendly but painfully slow. It's a Friday afternoon lunch time and there's only one server working the front of the house. While apologetic, it is frustrating.
Overall the sandwiches are good, but can use a little refining. Sauces on both sandwiches, garlic Parmesan sauce and pesto, overwhelm the chicken instead of compliment. While the menu says that all sandwiches are served on potato buns, the chicken pesto arrives on what looks like a ciabatta roll. When asked, the server is unsure. The classic mac & cheese is made with seashell pasta and a white cheddar that adds a little tang The waffle fries are golden brown thick slices of goodness. These sandwiches aren't really Popeye's competitors. They are elevated offerings with time and consideration given to the ingredients and flavor combinations.
