-4 Snaps! Strongly recommended
I'm pretty sure, at least for the foodies that I know, a positive review for Farmtable Cucina is a no-brainer. It is a known quantity to the local food world and was established by culinary rock stars Michael Mina and Don Pintabona in 2014. The overall consistent quality and variety of Locale Market, home to Farmtable Cucina in downtown St. Petersburg, is pretty much unmatched in these parts. I have reviewed some of the other stations in the market like the Poke bowl and the Hamburger counters, as well as their seafood low country boil last year. They are all consistently well done.
Another burger store has joined the ranks of patty spots in South Tampa. The new Shula Burger is about three blocks from Burger Fi and about half a mile from Goody-Goody, both contenders for those hungry for some ground beef goodness. The store has taken over the former Pita Pit, and is located in a small shopping center along with DP Dough and Noodle Kitchen and Market, all right on the path for those partying in Soho.
It's moniker comes from the storied NFL Legend and Hall of Fame Coach Don Shula, coach of the champion Miami Dolphins, and joins the family of other restaurants including Shula’s Steak House, and Shula’s 347 Grill. Coach Shula attended the grand opening.
The eatery features a bright and modern interior. The menu offers several variations on burgers, along with a chicken sandwich, a veggie burger, and salads. One of the unique things about their food is the source. According to owner Zydrunas “Z” Rackauskas, Shula Burger uses the same beef as Shula’s Steakhouse. The burgers are a blend of black Angus Chuck, short rib, and brisket.
-3 Snaps! Try it. You might like it.
I wondered how yet another burger place could possibly bring anything new to the food scene. Smashburger is a premium burger house that adds some flair by providing considerably more options in a build-your-own- burger format. They opened a new store recently in South Tampa. They've taken "Have it your way" to a new level. Smashburger's base patties include beef, chicken, turkey, and black bean ( a non-vegan patty containing cheese and eggs). Custom toppings like spinach, cucumber, and avocado are more upscale than a typical fast food place. Choice of buns include their standard issue egg bun, multigrain, spicy Chipotle, and gluten-free as an option as well. Top it off with a broad selection of cheese including bleu, goat, pepper jack and cheddar, along with standard condiments and it's a pretty tasty, albeit complicated for some, burger. That's a lot of choices.
