-4 Snaps! Strongly recommended
According to Nate, the manager of Bianchi's, the place is all about small plates and a great wine selection. They are competing with veteran restaurants in the same plaza like Yoko's Japanese Restaurant (great sushi), Osteria Natalina, and BT To-Go for the South Tampa food dollar, so the food better be really good. If the lunch is any example of the food, it's a great place to eat.
I have the Chicken, tomato, and avocado Panini with spicy mayo and Bibb lettuce salad on the side ($9.00).
The sandwich, served on buttered and grilled rustic Tuscan loaf bread, is a tasty combination of tender pulled chicken and creamy avocado with tomatoes adding sweetness. The spicy mayo has just with enough kick to make it interesting. Served with shaved fennel and dressed with a white balsamic glaze, the Bibb lettuce salad is finished with a tad of truffle oil. The dressing is very sweet and the truffle oil is thankfully not overdone. Overall? Excellent!
The dinner menu has more complex salads than lunch, including a duck confit with roasted fingerlings. The evening also brings several options for bruschetta including an interesting fig and marscapone combination. Small plates range everywhere from short ribs with polenta to sautéed Brussels sprouts with Parmesan. Both lunch and dinner menus offer charcuterie, cheese, and pate' options. There are no dessert options as the house sticks with a more traditional European after dinner cheese dish.
Chef Romeo Patron, a sommelier, met co-owner Susan Bianchi when they were both associated with Bern's Fine Wine and Spirits. Together they curate the wine list which is almost all imported. They stay with wine that is high acidity and low sugar. Patron scoffs at most California wines and simple American palettes.
The neighborhood seems to love the place. As folks come in they are greeted by name.
Inside there are 7 tables and a 10-stool bar area, with 3 high tops outside. Service is friendly with a welcoming feel. I highly recommend this place for the refined food preparation, precision in their curated wine list, reasonable prices for South Tampa, and the friendly service.
