Wordier Than Thou’s Tiffany Razzano just gets more and more creative in her ways to share the written word with the public. On Saturday she and 12 authors hosted a get together titled Eat Our Words: Local Authors Serve Up Dishes Inspired by Their Books. The concept was brilliant. Authors would come up with a dish related to their book, prepare it, and serve it to attendees at the event, all while promoting and signing their books. It was held at the Ale and the Witch in St. Petersburg on Saturday afternoon
I didn’t go for the food. I went for the concept. I love creative ways of pairing food with life and this event was unique.I don't know that any of the authors should quit their writing and go into the culinary arts. None of the food was top shelf, but it wasn't supposed to be.
Romancing Fruit Bread Pudding-blueberry bread pudding topped with whiskey sauce and paired with chocolate covered bacon - was presented by Olivia Norem along with her book His Viking Bride. She states there is a scene in the book that features bread, and this version of bread pudding can make you powerful.
Irreverent and immutable Cathy Salustri, Arts & Entertainment Editor at Creative Loafing Tampa (full disclosure-she edits some of my work for the paper) prepared Zombie Marshmallow Peeps for the event (this one was supposedly shot by a cannonball). She states it has nothing to do with her book Backroads Of Paradise- A journey to rediscover old Florida. However, being Easter weekend and firmly denying the Christianity that she was raised with, she celebrates with her marshmallow treats stating that Jesus Christ was a zombie (He rose from the dead). More apropos for the book, she also prepared gluten-free bite sized key lime pie bites with coconut buttercream.
Look at all that chow! It was like a potluck meal for book lovers. For 20 bucks participants got all this food and one free drink at the Ale and the Witch. Rizzano is already thinking about next year's event. If you hear about it, go!
