#5. Make the White White

Without getting too technical, white balance has to do with the tone of your photo. You've seen those shots that look too orange or too blue. That's a white balance problem. Most cameras come from the factory set on auto white balance (AWB). Sometimes it works, sometimes not so much. So, if the tone (not exposure) of your shots is off, adjust the white balance to make the whites in the photo white.

Look at the serving paper under this sandwich. The squares should be white. But as you see they are a yellow/orange (too warm). The white balance is off. Photo from Yelp!

Here's the image with the white balance corrected. There are still some challenges here, but just that one correction really improves the true color of the food.
